Since when did we need this kind of technology? We could have worked on creating better artificial organs and limbs or some kind of improved treatment or cure for diseases. Instead, we get an eye mouse...
This is a prime example of science doing something they can do, but not what they should do. |

First it was a private company, second Science doesn't focus on only one thing, but in many things. Right now Artificial organs are at work, artificial eyes, reverse aging, stem cell reconstruction are all at work. |

And if people weren't wasting money on making iPhones "smarter", cars faster and the most basic of basic daily motions obsolete, all those artificial organs and so forth wouldn't be being worked on. They'd be finished and getting used!
The human race has grown too dependant on technology. It's gotten too lazy for its own damn good and each new invention that comes out furthers not our health, but our laziness. Do you know why so many people are overwheight? Do you know why there are so many diseases and genetic defects? Do you know why the weather of this planet is so fucked up that Summer, Winter, Autumn and Spring no longer have a definition? It's because mankind's primary focus is to make living "easier". Who needs to take a 10 minute walk and keep fit when they can just drive? Who needs to worry about getting sick when they can just pop 30 different pills each day? Who needs a healthy, stable enviroment when we can stay indoors and play XBox all day long?
I may not believe that the Myians were predicting the end of the world when they stopped recording their calender, but I'd be damn surprised if this planet sees it past 2012 due to the rotten treatment its inhabitants have given it. One way or another, we will be the cause of our own destruction. No aliens are going to come wipe us out. They can just sit back and wait for us to do it for them.
While I admit there are many great things in this time of man's history, I'm afraid I have to say that I ashamed to be a part of it. The further we advance, technologically, the more we regress to fucking mud. The only difference between humans and the animals unlucky enough to share this planet with us is that we are able to lie to ourselves and call it all progress. Pleasure is the core of advancement, not neccessity. Strip the planet of all electrical appliances, force mankind back into the days before electricity... and there'd be no one left inside a year.
Don't you dare begin to tell me there are scientists or doctors or whoever out there working for the benefit of mankind. EVERYTHING that has been invented to make life better, to improve life, has been abused and exploited to excess leaving us both dependant and ultimately addicted to it. There is nothing, NUH-THING, you can say, do or show me to convince me that mankind as a whole is anything more than babaric, self-destructive and careless.
