Anyway what PC Desktops do you guys recommend?

I didnt want to get something to expensive. I was looking at dell but noticed that they dont have media readers Confused

Hey Martina!

Wow that sucks! Shocked
I doubt your old laptop is totally ruined or useless. The display is most of the time the most valuable part. They probably will replace want to replace the motherboard and keyboard. You could try selling parts over Ebay, plus you can pluck out your harddisk and put it in a USB case of $15 and use it as backup storage. Idea
I use a Fujitsu Siemens PC with a Philips 17" screen. Mine had a media reader in it plus 8 USB ports.
Dell & HP are both good choices too. To read media you can also use a cheap USB adapter this works really well. Most desktops have much higher performance and storage capacity for less money. So good choice!
Maybe a wireless keyboard and mouse to give you some freedom during a camshow? Idea

Still Dell. I buy them for my work, I do some IT support. Readers and software you can download free from the internet. Not sure what readers and stuff you actually looking for though.

Oh..... you mean a multi card reader.... Like Satch said, most plug and play hardware is USB...... I wouldn´t worry about it. I have a 9 in 1 card reader..... never used.

Wanna buy my desktop Question It is only 8 months old and I already want a new one...lol. My next desktop will be a Dell. They have a nice gaming high performance machine... the XPS Gen4...

Martina I would ask them exactly what is damaged and get them to list the components that need replacing Confused . It sounds like they might be ripping you off.

I have a Compaq desktop which is now 3 years old and which I just upgraded with more memory and a 2nd hard disk. It has been reliable for years but I would not recommend Compaq as the motherboard blew about 2 weeks after I got it and the service guys were not very helpful.

I also have a Dell desktop which is ancient but I have never had any problems with it.

BTW I am using a CRT monitor because the colors are more accurate than a TFT.

I'm supprised the didn't list the lcd screen.

Check out www.monarchcomputer.com they have some cool(is this still used) looking small form factor pcs, as well as custom pc's.

Personally, the 2GHZ iMac is my cup of tea. If you gonna spend 2K, might as well spend it on something good.

Thanks for the link. I dont want to spend 2K on a PC, thats just what its gonna cost to fix my laptop. Ofcourse its not worth fixing it for that price. That laptop i bought Dec 2002 for just under 3K. And a few months ago i just bought another laptop for $1500, so really dont want to spend much more on computers
I went and got a GateWay Desktop today, it seemed like the best deal for what i needed http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/oid/120108/bundleId/1279/rpem/ccd/bundleDetail.do Wink

Good choice. I've always been an Intel CPU fan... but I went out with a friend who needed a new desktop, and he bought an AMD Athlon 64 as well. Bloody fast if you ask me. I wonder how long it will be for Intel and AMD are getting new CPU's out. They are just making them quickier (clock speed), but not really new technology yet.

And 1000 USD seems cheap for the stuff you get. Is at least the same amount in Euro's...

I hope it'll bring you much joy!

ps. if we all email you our head shots (no gentlemen, the one with 2 eyes) you can print them off on your color printer, and hang them above your bed! Very Happy

I picked my laptop up today from the repair center, so i could give it a good funeral Laughing
Anyway i decided to try and switch it on. Much to my amazement it started up, and even the volume worked. It showed that even my wireless connection connected.
I couldnt open any programs, but that shows that not as much damage has been done as they say. I think they are just trying to rip me off asking $2,000 and saying all those things were damaged
Anyway im gonna mail it in to Toshiba now, as they said they would take alook at it for me. Im now very curious to what they will say

Idea If you know the part number you could order a new keyboard from Toshiba and swap it yourself. Might save you some time.

Hey Martina! This is quite normal for a repair job. I also handle repairs of equipment. The problem is that you have to guaratee your repairjob. It quite hard to know how much damage there is. The leftover could create shortcurcuits or overheating. It might also be possible the computer keeps working. Plus they have to charge you hours of labour since it's not a guaranteejob. I don't think they are trying to rip you off on purpose.
You could ask them for a keyboard replacement. Try a no cure no pay basis. It could be that the keyboard controller is dead because the liquid short circuited things. It's deffinitely worth a try since the keyboard is about the cheapest part of your computer. Installing the keyboard shouldn't also be too difficult. Wink

Good luck! Hope it works! It would save you the hastle of having setup all your software again. That's also worth something!

Hey this is message #1000 for me! woot

I had to take my Gateway back to the store today Evil or Very Mad It started crashing on me, and also the dvd rom or rw would not work. I called Gateway customer service and the guy on the phone went though alot of things with me on the computer, but it looks like the DVD Drive was broken and i was told that i would have to pay $75 for a new part that they would send me, that i would have to some how fit myself, and i would get my $75 back when i sent them back the broken part. So as you see Gateway customer service really isnt up to scratch, and you even dont get a free phone number. So i decided to just take it back and try something new. I ended up getting a HP instead, and its way faster then my Gateway was.

This is my new HP http://computershopper.com.com/HP_Media_Center_PC_m7060n_P4_630/4014-3118_9-31348893.html?tag=pb&rvwtp=4126-3118_9-31348893&orderby=90&sort=
