(All right... This is a small RP I planned to do with only Abi_Western. I was given her consent over at her fursona topic.)
Somewhere in the Gilded Pen, a young rabbit was seen reading through a rather thick book titled "Histories of Esteemed European Families". A kerosene lamp was lit next to him and several other books were found lying around where he was at. His brow was furrowed in concentration as his tired eyes glanced at the written words.
A week ago, he had been reading the BonBon Bastion when he came across an advertisement for a maid for hire. What was unusual about it was that the young woman's last name was the exact same as his. This had peaked his curiosity, as he had never put much thought in his family history ever since he was a boy.
In his spare time before and after work, he would pick out various tomes discussing families from various nations of the world. Unfortunately, his search had so far came up with nothing.
He had just finished selling a copy of Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte to a customer when he went back to his search for his family's history. He was so engrossed in his work he didn't notice someone entering his store. |

Abigail walked into the store and sighed, she had seen so many books recently in peoples homes that she thought she would browse through some herself.
She noticed a rabbit sitting down and reading, she assumed he was another buyer or a worker but let him be, for the time being.
Abigail looked around for a minute but frowned as her search came up empty handed.
Approaching the rabbit cautiously for assistance she said.
"Hello there, I was looking for some books containing poetry." |

Leaf's ears perked up at the sound of a woman's voice. His eyes lifted from the pages of the tome to a rather attractive white rabbit with a blond ponytail. As he looked at her, he had a rather odd feeling like he'd seen her before, almost as if... Slightly shaking his head, he placed his book down on a nearby table and dusted himself off.
"Sorry about that, madam. How may I be of service today?" |

Abigail smiled.
"Well, Poetry books. Preferably something with poet laureate writers." |

Leaf's face blushed slightly from embarrassment. "Oh, um... Of course, miss. Let me see if I can find something for you."
Leaf headed towards two bookshelves containing fictional works and poetry. He quickly glanced around before heading back to the young woman with several books in his hands. He placed his findings at a table in front of her and arranged them in alphabetical order
"Let's see... I have works by the poet laureate Lord Tennyson. I also have Elizabeth and Robert Browning, and... I even have something from two lads named Matthew Arnold and Gerald Manley Hopkins." |

"Well, I'm not good with names, I would prefer something romantic to read."
She took one of the books and flicked through it. |

"Hm... Well, I think the works of the Brownings would be suitable for you. Their poems were filled with compassion stemming from their love for one another."
Leaf looked towards the young rabbit. His eyes suddenly light in realization and he took off his hat.
"Oh! Forgive me, miss. I haven't introduced myself. My name is Leaf Thornton, owner of this establishment. If there's anything else you need, please let me know." |

"Then I think their books will suit me down to the ground."
She watched him take off his hat and she got very curious of the mention of his name.
"Thornton? How delightfully coincidental! I'm Miss Abigail Thornton."
She curtseyed to Leaf and smiled, nodding. |

Leaf's ears stood up in surprise over Abigail's last name.
"Oh! You must be the one who made the advertisement in the paper. It's nice to meet you."
He nods towards the young lady. "To be honest, when I learned of your name, I decided to do a little research on my family." |

"Really... Ideas of some sort of family tie I suppose?" She chuckled and put her hand up to her chin. |

"Well, it never hurt to see if there was or not...
"
He crossed his arms as his brow was furrowed in thought.
"I remember some of the stories I was told about my great-grandfather Samuel Thornton. For some reason, my family didn't want to go into detail over his life." |

"Hmm, well I don't know much past my own grandfather, that history was left back in America." She thought for a minute herself.
"I remember my father telling me of them fighting off the natives." |

"Natives...? That must have been the Iroquois or Oneida tribes he may have fought. I remember grandpa saying that Samuel was involved with them too... Can't remember if he fought them or not. He once showed me some kind of trinket he got when he was a boy." |

"All I know is that they defended their farmland from them, but that my grandfather had claimed the land with the help of family." |

"Grandpa did say that Samuel went north to try farming. I don't know why, but apparently he decided it wasn't for him and moved to New York City." |

"Well this is marvellous! We could be distant cousins or the like!"
She held out her arms as if to embrace him. |

"C-Cousins? Really?"
His thoughts turned to what he had recently learned. Although he knew Samuel went up north for farming just like Abigail's family, he was a little skeptical that he was related to her.
He suddenly remembered a time when he spend a weekend at his grandfather's home as a little boy. He had been feeling bored when noticed a closet door that was ajar. Curious, he snuck inside to look around. After glancing over the different clothes, he saw something that was hidden under a pile of old blankets.
He yanked them off to find an old wooden chest that had a broken lock. After opening the chest, he saw different trinkets and personal items including an old Indian relic. What caught his eye, however, was a small folded piece of paper sticking out an old book.
He took out the paper and opened it to reveal a drawing of two rabbit farmers standing in front of a farm house. One of the farmers had white fur and blond hair while the second farmer hair and fur was brown. The brown furred rabbit had his arm across the other's shoulder with a grin on his face. Scribbled in the corner was the message "Brothers for life".
He looked over at Abigail, noting that she bore a resemblance to the white rabbit from the picture. It was then he knew the answer...
With a warm smile on his face, Leaf walked over to her and embraced her. |

Abigail gave him a big hug, and then she stopped and said "We should do something, something to celebrate!" |

Leaf pulled out his pocketwatch to check the time.
"Well, it is almost time to close up shop. How about we go out to celebrate and know one another?" |

"That's just dandy! Where should we go?" Abigail was smiling now and fidgeting with her pony tail. |

Leaf cups his chin in thought.
"Hm... Well, there's an Italian restaurant called Il Giardino delle Rose that recently opened up. Perhaps we could try there?" |

"Sound fancy, ok! Let me just pay for this poetry book and we can be on our way." |

"You don't have to worry about paying, Abigail. I'll let you have it as a gift."
He walked over to the shop window and placed a sign at the window saying "CLOSED". |

"That's awfully kind of you." She smiled and looked through the book.
"Ready when you are." |

After setting up the sign, he walked over to the counter and took his moneybag.
"Shall we?"
He followed behind Abigail out of the store and locked the shop door. He grasped her right hand with his left and headed down the street towards the fountain in the center of town. |

Abi took his hand and walked along with him, as they neared the fountain she looked at it and smiled, she didn't know what kind of restaurant they were going to but she hoped it would be nice. |

Leaf glanced around until he found the restaurant across the fountain.
The white building itself was rather quaint, giving it the appearance of a city cafe. Several red and pink rose bushes planted in a row out front. A wooden rose was hung above the doorway with the name elegantly written upon it.
A few tables were set outdoors to allow customers to enjoy the sights of the city while the scent of the roses hung in the air. With a smile, a waiter led the two rabbits to their seats.
"Well... I can see where they got the name," Leaf whispered to Abigail.
(Sorry if there are not enough details for the restaurant. I'm not that good with elegant descriptions.) |

(Not a bother, I assume it's called the rose?)
"Yes, well seeing as they put the effort in to live up to the name, I suppose works well." |

(Close... It's actually called The Rose Garden in Italian.)
"Indeed. I have to admit, they did a good job with keeping the roses looking nice."
He picked up the menu to look for something good to eat. |

"I think I'll just have a light green salad while I'm here" Said Abi, studying her own menu. |
