That's more or less the plot behind the Sega CD game "Robo Aleste". 20 foot, steam powered, flying fighting mecha. They give a date too, but I can't remember exactly when it was meant to be.
Not that it ends up having the slightest bearing on the gameplay itself. |

Pardon my intrusion, but this not-so humble wombat would like to point out that giant robots make everything better. One wonders why there aren't more of the things in this time period.

*walks in wearing a waiter's outfit, munching on a delicious fruit pie, then reaches out, grabs GotN and puts her on an elegant silver tray*
Very well, I'll serve the ladies.
*adds a salad side order to the tray, then serves GotN to Johnny*
There you go, sir.

yes, the playpus. my favorite example for the evidence of intelligent design. There is no logical reason for something like them to evolve naturally. the only explanation i can think of is that God has a sense of humor and loves to make us go, "WTF?!" |

So, tis monsters ya be needin'?
Lucky fer you lot, tis what I have.
*the figure takes a long drag from the cigar and exhales it into the air*
*the smoke swirls and forms a scene, right before the assembled eyes*
I call this one... "Steal Not the Dead."
-------------------
"Gerald, this place is creepy." The young Manx shuddered against the cold night air. "I've heard dreadful things about this place. We should try a different cemetary."
"Don't waste me time, youngster." A grizzled mutt snarled back. "Tis a fresh, old sod somewhere buried here. The university pays fine cash monies for cadavers these days. I aims to collect what's mine!"
The two impoverished chaps were Gerald and Sigmund, a pair of local grave robbers. Armed with shovel, spade and bullseye lantern, the two made their living unearthing the freshly dead and selling them to men of science.
This night, however, the pair had been lured to none other than St. Lych's cemetary, a locale notorious for strange happenings and frightful disappearances.
Sigmund wiped an errant hair from his eyes and as he looked further into the burial ground, he caught a glimpse of something odd.
"Gerald, a light!" The cat pointed with fear. "I see a light movin' around over there."
The older dog narrowed his eyes and snorted.
"Someone tryin' to horn in on my business?" Gerald bared his teeth. "I ain't sittin' down fer this!"
The dog took off in the direction of the light, his spade slung over his shoulder like a soldier's rifle.
"Gerald, WAIT!!" The cat attempted to give chase, only to fall and crack his head on a marker.
Sigmund saw darkness briefly, only to snap awake a short time later. The enormity of the situation was not lost on him.
"Gerald, where are ya, ya damn fool!" The Manx stumbled to his feet. "I wish he hadn't taken the lantern."
As his eyes refocused, he squinted at the light which was slowly approaching him. It waved back and forth, as though being carried by someone with a limp.
"Gerald, thank gawd ya came back." The feline wiped his brow. "I'd thought I'd lost ya..."
"Ya were right about one thing, lad..." A terribly hoarse and gutteral voice issued from the approaching figure. "There wuz a fresh, old sod in this cemetary..."
As the light embraced the young Manx, the terrible view of the figure was fully revealed. A pale, gaunt creature stood before him, holding a lantern. It's hairless, sickly flesh glowed faintly in the pallid light. It's eyes were completely black and it's mouth was full of sharp, jagged teeth.
Clutching a bloody bone in it's hand, the beast wore Gerald's torn cap on it's head.
"Yer friend was tough, but tasty..." It smiled and smacked it's lips. "Thanks fer bringin' 'im round."
Sigmund screamed with a voice like a choir and fled with all the power he could muster. It was said that boy ran for five miles before he finally stopped.

humph. After I made the grand chivalrous gesture of inviting you to enjoy the ball without my presence in the other thread.
Of course... I come and go so frequently, and post so rarely, I'm never missed. A shame, but the lonely destiny of the eternal traveller. If I were on land I'd be tragic, or even romantic. Out to sea, I'm only absent.
Nice story, Chaos, a good early start to the month of darkness. |
