As an aside, sheepskin condoms are not that weird if you think about it. To date, practically all sausage is made out of "natural casing", and you can guess what that implies.

I think that people try to cover up the fact that a lot of this world is actually still simple in origin and there are many unusual sources for the items we use today. Some dyes (including food coloring) are still made from crushed beetles for instance.
