Alley,
Just thought of two more movies I left off. Moulin Rouge is an awesome movie (especially for those of us who grew up on 80's music.) The second one is an older movie called Shogun. I don't believe the Last Samurai was based on a real person, it just had historical settings. Shogun though is about the US forcing open Japans borders.

There are so many good movies, but one I must recommend is "Das Boot - Director's cut" by Wolfgang Peterson. It was nominated for 6 Oscar.
This is really a GREAT movie, originaly from 1981.
My DVD movie collection is over 70 DVD's + and this is one of the top 5.
If you like sci-fi, "Alien" is the one to watch, from 1979. This is probably one of the best sci-fi movies ever made.
"Where Eagles Dare" 1968 with Clint Eastwood and "Artificial Intelligence" 2001 by Steven Spielberg, last one not in my collection yet.
And ofcourse I have to mention "Top Gun" 1986.
Check out www.imdb.com - The Internet Movie Database, the name says it all.
Hope you find my recommendations and surgestions interesting, Alley |

I danced a lot in a song based on this film 'das boot' (from U96 ? I'm not sure)! Very electronic! Great beat! I've never seen the film but now I'm going to find it! |

to continue the list, some of mine :
- le roi danse (story about french Rey Louis XIV and his implications with music in his court with the famous musicians jean-baptiste lully
Not historical but the historical context is really well done :
- the name of the rose (I recommand to read the book too- umberto ecco is one of my favourite writer)
A amazing and deep story I really loved two years ago (don't be disturb with the title, it's not an erotic movie at all)

Yes Polarcircle I'm sure! I remember the videoclip which showed b/w scene of a submarine! U96 is the name of the band! It's kind of body electro (like front 242,...)! I think the song (not the movie) is from the beginning of the nineties!
I find one link where you can listen the song : http://www.backtotheoldskool.co.uk/das_boot.htm |

Just an observation. This Pope topic has turned into a movie topic. Bit weird. Having said this, on Martina Warrens forum there is a movie topic, and very succesful I must say. Goes on for 15 pages already. If Alley and some fans are into movies, start a seperate topic.
Take care. |

orange : Hmm, I looked into the site you linked at, and it says it's from a b/w movie, that's not the one I think of. Couldn't listen to the music because I don't have any program to handle *.rm files.
someoneoutthere : Agree, I think there is a topic started upon this subject. |

"As Good As It Gets" is a good movie Alley. It's a romantic drama/comedy about the healing of human souls. It's beautifully acted out by masters of the art. |

It's my fault guys! SORRY! I was rambeling at the mouth...and had mentioned movies. I guess I started treating this thread...as if I was having a conversation with someone.
I don't know I guess I should have saved it..for another topic. Oh yeah...but I think what happened was...we were talking about the Pope and other world issues and so I mentioned the movie, Schindler's List. That's how it all started. I guess I need a good spanking. Sorry again.
Should we just go with the flow or what do you suggest I do?? |

Ha ha - no worries Alley!
I think a movie suggestion thread was started for you?
I'm not really Catholic, more Buddhist than anything, but doesn't the name that the Pope chooses represent his beliefs? Like John Paul was supposed to be bridging the doctrines of the apostles John and Paul??
Does anyone know anything about this with respect to the new Pope, Benedict - what does that mean? I heard (not sure) that it means he'd be even more strict when it comes to condoms etc. and not at all modern-thinking... |

i completely agree dally.
I think it is wonderful that this became just like a casual conversation between friends for Alley. That's how i have seen it. You would be amazed at some of the topics my friends and i start off with and were we end up at the end.

http://www.sverigeturism.se/smorgasbord/smorgasbord/provincial/bohuslan/history/
And now when back at this forum I realise what an amasing beautiful site you have created.
I don't know what you think of spanking but maybe I'm partly guilty in fusionising the pope with the movies when almost mentioning A few good men with Jack Nicholson before.
If it's ok to ignite the movies again I have to recomend
Lucky people center international
A drama documentary with rhythm . A bit like a music video showing how we are doing around the world...
http://www.filmfestival.gr/docfestival/1999/themes_d_uk.html
and
The Voice
When you wrote :
"Down South, I think everyone's been doing a great job with stating their opinions and still remain respectful toward others as well. I LOVE THAT! "
The Voice is also made by Lucky people center international and deals with the crazy north-south isue.
http://www.svt.se/svtsales/tvshow.asp?id=230
And James Cameron T1 T2 T3 now made
Aliens of the deep
http://imdb.com/title/tt0417415/
Anybody have any documentary recomendations
And what about the pope...
Arent we all jews, buddists, indians etc.. and then on top of that are some people Catolics, Protestants, Ortodox, Jehova, Jah Rastafahri, fotball fans, mystic new agers, popartistworship fans, nature lovers etc etc... AS WELL on top of the indians etc...
Just heard the Germans might get a Jamaica coalition in the election they held today. Where does the pope fit in there.
"I'm a rainbow too" Bob Marley.
Only dead fishes go with the flow ...some say...
unless they wanna have crazyfun |
