To be honest,I would like to design an organ for the Delight Castle someday.I have in my mind an organ case with all kinds of cheribs with hearts, doves and roses carved into it.

I think it's a brilliant, generous and truly appreciated proposal! I could draw the scene of the delivery of the organ for a room of the Delight Castle, an organ commissioned by Scarlett as a gift to Betty, built by the excellent and notorious artisan Foxonian! But are you really able to draw a project for an organ? we could put it in the Work in Progress gallery! Better yet, if you have some projects for buildings, clothes, objects and inventions, that is the right gallery for your ideas Idea

Well,I can't draw(nor am I an organist in RL,I hate to say). But I do have books on organ construction.I'll dig them out and try to get some scans done for you of various organ cases and how they are put together. ^.^ Thanks so much for going along with my idea,Vanessa!

Just one more thing,Vanessa. If this organ were to go into Castle Delight's Grand Ball room, what are the dimensions of the room? This will help me choose what type of organ to show you(recital, symphonic) and how large it would be(we could be talking a case up to 40 meters in height here). Wink

Here's an example of how large we are talking here. This is a pick of the organ that used to be in Boston's Spymphony hall back aorund the same time as PBB .It's now located in the Muthuen Music hall(a building constructed specifically to house this instrument.Although some of this case has some elements that I am thinking of for the Delight castle organ. Wow, I have'nt seen this glorious monstrosity in years. The first time I saw this picture, I was dumbstruck, literally dumbstruck. It's still as awsome as I remember.

*nods* Actually, most organs have to be quite large to accomodate not only the full range of pipes needed to "voice" in instrument, but also to acomidate the huge winchests(which house the mecanically operated bellows that provide air to the various pipes) as well as the mechanical action needed to link the keys, stops and pedals of the keyboard to said pipes. Believe it or not, many wealthy people who wanted to have a "recital" organ installed in their mansions, often had to construct large additions just to house an instument of this size(the one at mmhm is a "recital" organ). Most often, they used this space for other functions like a ballroom or as a large dinning room.

I suppose we could see something like that in BonBon. Though, besides just straight pipes, perhaps some of the larger ones would be constructed in the shapes of beautiful women. Very Happy

I made a quick sketch, I was thinking: cats, the letter "V" and the time when I used to play the violin...
I was thinking that the center character could "be" one or more of the low tubes and she's holding hands to the side characters witch could also be low tone tubes and the center character could wear a corset with the tube hole thing integrated at the bottom of it. Victorian style decorations are mandatory.
Sorry for not finishing the center character... you know... the head.

I'm suddenly reminded of The Headless Horseman. Regardless, it's a beautiful piece, sketch or no. I can't wait to see the finished product.

I agree, since I was thinknig along those lines as welll. My other idea was to have elaborate scroll work with hearts and flowers carved into the case as decoration aorund the pipes.I would change the console to feature draw knows, rather than flat switches since those were more common in the time PBB.But,I do like the case here. ^.^

OK.... Foxonian, you should probably say that again so that it will go through my thick skull. I know a few things about organs, but not enough. More details are welcomed.
And another thing: I won't color it... I never color my work, I just sketch.

Okay. Here is my rough of the PBB organ basied on my ideas and what has been suggested here so far.I stress again,I am in no way an artist and I can barely sketch anything as you can tell. http://s47.photobucket.com/albums/f179/Foxonian/?action=view&current=PBBpipeorgandesign.jpg

Here's something else to push for an organ in PBB.It was widely reported in the 19th century that certan kinds of music played on an large organ used to make women faint in states of ecstacy.Mostly Romatic period work done by Louis Vierne,Charles-Marie Widor and Maurice Durfle I believe. Wink

Reminds me of the organ in the United States Naval Academy Chapel. Can't seem to find a picture of it though.

Hmm.Yeah,it does look a bit like the Naval Academy organ form what I recall of it too. Also the Wanamaker Organ on Philedelphia(the one that's in a dept. store). At least you could tell it's an organ and given my artistic skills, that is an achievemnt on my part. Wink

To fit in a room of the Delight Castle the organ should be much smaller than the first image (the ancient print), an altar of that kind can find space within a huge cathedral, not in a casino hotel. Foxonian, do you think it'd be possible to put a smaller organ in the ballroom of the Delight Castle? An organ slightly larger than the one played by Davy Jones on the Flying Dutchman in "Pirates of the Caribbean 3"... Thanks for the link and the sketches to Mazda and Foxonian!

*nods* That's no problem. The original design I drew can be scaled down.Just remove the pipe sections on either side and keep the center pipe scetion. Then reduce the keyboard to two ranks(or two sets of keyboards). If that not doable, please let me know and I can draw something else. Wink

Vanessa, here is a design for a small organ closer to what you described.I put Height and length in the diagram(if you can't see,the height is between 10 to 15 m and the length is about 6 m). http://s47.photobucket.com/albums/f179/Foxonian/?action=view&current=PBBpipeorganrevised.jpg

Can I get the relative hight and width of the wall for the organ compared to something that resembles the average character hight? I don't know how the Ballroom looks like.

I assumed that the average height of a room in PBB would be about 20 meters. However,I think Vanessa would have a better answer to this that I. Wink
