Exactly how big of a scale in terms of the whole of Japan did this event occur. I have'nt gotten any specific details thus far. |

According to news reports the eathquake reached 8.9, the third largest ever recorded, with 350 confirmed dead over 500 missing.
A tsunami has swept away THREE trains, and a cruise liner with 100 people on board. A dam has been breached flooding a large area, two nuclear power plants have been forced to shut down. With one of the plant's cooling systems reaching a critial stage because of pressure build- up in the system it could explode. But venting the steam could be just as dangerous because it is unknown how radioactive the steam is.
As it is now a few hours past dawn in Japan, we should be hearing how many causalties there are and how much damage was caused |

I can only hope and pray for them.... Japan is a great country and to have so many disasters occuring at once, it makes me wonder if there is going to be an end to the suffering. |

Situation in Japan is dire.
The Fukushima I Daiichi (第一, translates as Number One) reactors are barely under control, but while the first 2 to explode are cooling off, the #2 looks to be in much worse shape.
The other plant, Fukushima II 第二 (# 2) 12km away is also at risk, but their are 2 other nuclear plants that are damaged.
Japan uses nuclear for a very large percentage of electricity, critical for rescue and recovery, but for the long term it will cripple Japans economy.
Tokyo is under severe power shortages.
On the Human side, what can I say, tragic to the nth degree.
5 commuter trains where unaccounted for, and if it is anything like in India a few short years ago, probably no survivors.
I am sending donations to help Japan.
On a personal level, a cousin of mine was lucky to survive, had to abandon his truck and run for it before the wave hit. Good action on his part, but nothing compared to everything else.
A side note good for all to know:
Cell phone and land phone systems in Japan either out of action of overloaded.
Internet to Japan was still fully functional (provided the local connection to hub was working, and power).
Using Yahoo Messanger or Skype able to talk, WITH video, to a few friends who used it. Relatives not in habit to use, so could not connect.[/b] |

Well the way to tell the difference is to put both groups in a similar crisis as the Japanese quake and see which ones help their fellow man and which ones scramble over the dead and dying, push aside the sick and wounded and grab at the food and water being handed out whilst demanding some one does something about the situation.
I think you will find they are the ones who would say "They deserved it" |

I put forth some money to help in the cause. The last thing I want is for Japan to fall. |

Do you think that people should let others say such things with out an argument? "They deserved it" WHY?
You are a passenger in a car accident, the car you are in is a total wreck. The driver, your friend is dead as are the other passengers and you yourself are paralysed from the neck down.
The driver from the other car, who was drunk, snorting cocaine and using his cell phone whist driving on the wrong side of the road walks away with a bump on the head.
Now do you think you deserved what happenen to you, to your friends?
Would you like it if some one said " Well they deserved it " or would you feel glad that passers-by detained the other driver, helped you and expressed their sympathy for your loss. |

Either way Xivk, I don't believe Japan deserved an ounce what happened to them. Not because of the fact that they have an awesome selection of anime, or I would be biased in that one regard. I always longed to go to the land of the rising sun, to see the sights, listen to the bustling of crowds, experience the culture that has crafted some of my insights on how to view the world around me. To say they deserved that earthquake would have may nay in that regard. |

I understand, but we can't change their opinion anymore than a person would willing eat their own shoe. |

Indeed... It angers me greatly when someone says such things, especially if it is someone from a group with religious affiliations. It is as if they defy the very teachings they are supposed to follow.
May the people of Japan that have suffered from these tragedies find comfort and hope in these dire times... |
