It seems a lot of us are fans of Japanese manga (I know Vanessa is Smile ), anime, culture, and/or have visited.

So questions is, does this apply to you?

Do you love/like anime?
Do/did you go to anime centric (mainly anime related, not a Sci-FI that had anime) conventions?
Do you have anime/manga media in your house?
Have you been to Japan (stayed, not pass though on connecting flight).
Do you have family or a close friend who is Japanese?
Can you speak or read a little Japanese (the kana's, some kanji)?
Do you have Japanese co-workers?

Making that list makes me realize how much I am linked, but for the answer is:
All of the above. Shocked

The funny thing is, not all of it was my choosing.

I was, I think, 13 years old first time I went to Japan (with parents, of course).
I was in Tulsa, OK in a Sci-Fi connection in 1987 when I first truly discovered "Japanese Anime" (opposed to anime with English dialog (not translated, made up story that fit action, AND being something other then a "cartoon").
In 1993 I was in Venzeuela when I met a Japanese woman who would become my girlfriend.
I met an university buddy, a Japanese family that needed a tutor for their sons, and a friend with the same hobby at different times and places, who worked at the same company which I eventually ended up working for.

Getting into anime and learning Japanese are 2 items I chose, the rest sort of happened.

Its all good. Smile

I had a Japanese friend that I often hung out with in High School. He taught me a bit of Japanese (Alot of cursewords too lol). I still have his email.

I've never been a big fan of manga or various other Japanese things. When I was young I watched various anime films, and I enjoyed the Akira manga.

Other than that, I think the closest I get is playing the Final Fantasy games.

I actually don't do much browsing. See, I'm not exactly very computer literate, so to avoid nasty surprises, I tend to stay... near the edge of the pool so to speak. I make it a point not to go off and download many series. When it comes to the internet and downloading stuff, I take a very paranoid approach, especially when it comes to things with high demand like ripped anime series.

1) I do enjoy anime. I've enjoyed it for quite some time now. The first anime I actually watched was Robotech from Harmony Gold. The first animes I bought were a tie between Devil Hunter Yohko and End of Summer.

2) I'm not much of a convention goer kinda person. Got soured after the first two that I tried. Too many... unwashed, irritating, overly-stereotyped people there that ended up fouling the waters for me. There are only so many times I can be "corrected" for calling it Robotech before it gets annoying. Now, the conventions might have changed some, but I do enjoy watching the story of some of the bishoujo anime too. Vicious, EL, Five Card, Angels in the Court, all have plots. You don't have to fast forward to the sex scenes.

3) Yes, a lot of it. Including several Region 2 DVDs that required a multi-region DVD player to play. I also have Laser Disks... though I'm worried that they've warped. I haven't been able to store them properly. I also have a bunch of anime-esq paraphalia, such as music CDs, posters, pvc figurines, mouse pads, trade papers, PC games, Sega Saturn Games, info books, and the like.

4) I have been to Japan once over the new year, to visit a friend. On my bucket list I plan on going again.

5) Don't really have one.

6) I can speak/read a bit of Japanese, and I can puzzel a bit of it out as well. I really need to get back onto the old Rosetta stone to try and work on it a lot more. I have several translation and text books that, if I actually worked on them like I'm suppossed too, I'd probably have better than tourist, but not fluent. Spahn puts out a pretty good Kanji/Kana book.

7) Can't say that I have Japanese co-workers.

So... there you go Etchi.))
