The Plague Dogs was created by the same studio as Watership Down and the original books were both written by Richard Adams.
Plague Dogs was produced after the phenomenal success of the animated verson of Watership Down. However it was strictly not for kiddies and bombed at the box office, dispite recieving critical acclam. The song played over the end credits is fantastic and one that I intend to have played at my funeral.

Felidae has been discussed here before, this film was also based on a series of novels written in the mid 1980's. It never received a wide release at the cinema nor on video tape, the copy I have is an Austrailian release of the German version, but is available on DVD.

Unfortunately the general mind set was and to some extent still is animation=Kiddies. However Anime from Japan and more recent releases such as "A scanner darkly" have gone some way to correct this.

I have heard of all 3 films, but watched only 2 of them. They are strictly not for kids despite the fact that it is an animation film, and is from germany I might add, so it did'nt have the boundaries that Disney had when they thought of what to put in there.

Felidae might have been like a cross between the Aristocats and the Great Mouse Detective. It sets much darker overtones by actually showing gruesome death scenes, and visually shows a graphic amount of lewd obscenities that some people frown upon. I'm pretty sure that the two cats mating is not something I would want to show a kid till they are at least 15.

Watership downplays the sexual parts to it, though they did search out females to mate, and that was understandable to some kids if they were to watch it. The only thing I may have seen that would have made it more kid friendly was the blood that appeared frequently. Even the Secrets of Nymph had some blood, but not enough to frighten a child to death.
