So, Mass Effect 3 has recently been released and I've been playing on the new ME multiplayer about as much as the singleplayer. I have to say, compared to the teamwork in Halo games, ME3 is LEAGUES ahead in competence. People actually stick together and work as a team. Albeit, not always effectively, but substantially more effectively than in some other online teamwork shooters.
With that said, I was wondering if anyone here plays ME3 multiplayer and would like to form a group and kick back for a few hours, some time, and just blow Ceberus, Geth and Reapers to hell, together? |

I'll admit that the Elcor scene made me snicker and giggle. The rest was just wrong.
But this thread is not about who can fuck who in Mass Effect. I made this thread to see if anyone would like to shoot METAL PALLETS at things, not white goop. |

Asari adept, level 18, Black Velvet. Got her off my first and, to date, only Spectre pack. |

Eh, not so much. I've got both Drell's. Only one's I'm missing are the two infiltrators, the Krogans and the Asari Adept. Even got the BF3 soldier. Carnage & Carnifex work like a glorious charm. <3 |

What are these packs you speak of? Is it some kind random digital booster pack or something to give you allies? |

As you play through multiplayer, you earn credits from your matches. Those credits can be spent on "packs" in a "store". The packs contain a random mixture of supplies from healing items to instant ammo refills as well as single match boosters like ammo bonuses and weapon damage enhancers. More expensive packs typically give these supplies in a higher number e.g. where a low level pack would give you an +1 Medigel item, a higher level pack would give you a +3 Medigel item, adding 3 Medigels to your collection instead of just 1.
Among the standard supplies, you can also unlock new weapons and characters to use. As with the supplies, higher level packs give a chance at getting rarer and more powerful weapons, weapon modifications like rifle kickback stablisers and barrel extenders, and characters.
The lowest pack gives 5 random items with a small chance of an "uncommon" item. The mid level pack gives 5 random items that include at least 1 uncommon item or better. And the highest level pack gives 5 random items with at least 1 rare item or better. The Vet pack is the mid level pack and the Frogan I just pulled out of it was a golden item, meaning it is a "rare".
While you might think that with the small number of characters and weapons there are to collect, you could quickly gather all the rare items, that is not the case. Each weapons have 10 levels and each time you get a weapon you alreday have, that weapon is upgraded to the next level. Characters already unlocked also still have the potential to be gained because they have a small number of appearence customisations that can be unlocked when you get a character you already have. While you might not think that appearences are not important, that little "upgrade" also includes a boost in exp for that particular character. Weapon modifications also have a number of "upgrades". So, even though there's not a HUGE variety of items to gather in multiplayer, rare items are still rare... and they're still not the best there is to get.
Another thing to note is that while everything is unlocked via "grinding for credits", credits are not hard to accumulate with a little patience. The packs aren't overly expensive so you don't need to be a "20 hour a day" player to get far.
For perspective, the Recruit packs are 5000 credits, the Veteran packs are 20000 and the Spectre packs are 60000. The Equipment packs (which are exclusively supply packs) are also 20000 credits. Doing random "easy" (yeah, yeah, yeah, easy is for pussies, STFU Mayfield) missions, I can get roughly 15000 credits per match, assuming all 11 waves are completed. Yeah, that's right, 11 waves of progressively harder difficulty. Of course, I'm sure it's entirely possible to get 20 to 25k credits for a Bronze level mission. I'm ususally on the bottom of the list with the least impressive medals, so... Yeah, I suck, fucking sue me. |

Oh, also, if you're too lazy/impatient, you can also buy Vet and Spectre packs with Microsoft points. 80 for a Veteran (also Equipment), 160 for Spectre. |

To note the PSN wallet vertion is $0.99 for a Vet pack, and $1.99 for a Spectre pack.
Also compleating missions on the multiplayer Galaxy at war also increases galaxy war readyness for the singel player camapign. |

Yeah, 80 and 160 Microsoft points would also be about $1 and $2 respectively. Also, yes, increasing Galaxy readiness through multiplayer does help with the singleplayer campaign, but it's not needed. It is an entirely optional bonus that has no real effect on the single player campaign or the outcome. All it effects is how much effort you need to put into the single player campaign to get the best ending.
On that note, I should also mention that getting your Galatic readiness from 50% to 100% doesn't take very long. And while it does gradually decrease over time, it does so at a considerably low pace. |

Having just finished ME3, I can say that it is one hell of a game. Of course, having already played and thoroughly enjoyed the story of the previous two Mass Effect games no doubt had a huge impact on my enjoyment of the third and - I assume - final game. But, I'd dare say that even if you haven't played Mass Effect before, it certainly has some riveting points that are well worth experiencing. |

((Not necessarily a Mass Effect 3 thingy, but you guys might want to check out Rooster Teeth's Mass Effect short "Critical Mission Failure". I found it to be funny, while not being mean or anything to the franchise.
And it stars the voice of Caboose, so how can you not like that?
Anyway, another take on Mass Effect. )) |
