Already a number if years there is solar race organized in Australia.

The idea is to cross Australia from the North to the South.

The route:

It only takes 4 days to complete the journey..with sunpower only

It was the third time in a row a Dutch team won

Many famous Universities participated like MIT:

Hey Bennie that car look a bit uncomfortable I'd hate to spend 4 days stuck in that driving through the outback. I hope it has air conditioning |

Yes not comfy ..All cars are like that !

And there is no airco as they have to save every little energy they catch from

the sun.

They do drive very fast ..not sure if the wind is cool enough |

I remember this race from when I was living in Oz, so it has been going at least 10 years The cars don't look much different but I am sure the solar cells, motors etc. have all improved. And they probably go faster now too.

I wonder if they stop at night or keep going on batteries ? |

Not exactly a relaxing holidday ...for the driver.

Perhaps for the rest of the team as many people are needed to keep thing going.

Totally on the right is Wubbo Okkels. He was the first dutch Astronaut. He's also professor at the university of Delft. Unfortunately he couldn't be there because of a heart attack a couple of weeks ago. I used to think astronauts were the most healthy people around.

This car had an average speed of 103 km/h about 64 miles/hour. |
