Gonna be upgrading soon, though. Whenever the new computer arrives...

Ok Dave ... It's time to think about a new PC? |

What?! And have to endure Windoze? And that new 64 bit OS from M$ - what's it called...very-Long time-coming Horn?
I think there maybe a stellar G5 in that man's future. |

What's wrong with Windows (and Microsoft for that matter)? Do you have a Mac too (like Dave)? How does that work? Do you have to type in your own paths directly, like in the old days? |

Maybe your question about Windows should have been "What is Right with Windows?" rather than what it wrong with Windows.
Windows XP isn't bad, considering how long it took to get it reasonably workable. As for Linux, it is, likely, the best of all the OSes, and the PC manufacturers are beginning to see that now, as many are offering either dual support for M$ and Linux. Or, exclusive Linux support and NO Windows support, as in the case of IBM servers.
It's interesting to note that while M$ has completely rejected any involvement in Linux, attacking it at every turn, even to the point of calling the product "UnAmerican", Apple's OS X embraces cooperation with open source. Many open source apps run on OS X quite well (with X11) as well as UNIX apps.
As for a 64-bit OS, it looks like M$'s Long Horn maybe some way from its commercial release. Apple has build more 64-bit features in OS X next version, but even they are far off. Linux, however, will get to completing a full 64-bit OS first. (For the Mac, YellowDog Linux maybe 64-bit before OS X is.) |

As for typing paths, you can still do that by typing UNIX commands in Terminal. Or, you can get around with a slick, sweet (Just like Jana Cova) GUI that is infinitely more usable and easier to use than Win XP. |

You mean apart from the little known fact that they outsourced some of their webhosting to Linux servers for security reasons

Thats the funniest thing I heard in a long time! |

Sorry, about all the techie talk, Jana, we're just trying to educate and inform. Maybe we need an "off topic" board. |

Ironic, isn't it?
M$ shut the doors on their Linux support about four years ago and have been railing against it ever since. |

Well, the Mac uses an operating system called OSX, which has all these sexy release names, like Jaguar, Panther, and, soon, Tiger.
And OSX's interface is sweet and slick, kinda like you, Jana. But I think I made that clear already. |

I obviously opened up a Pandora's Box with this one, and all I said was "Dave, I guess it's time to buy a new PC?" |

Nope, you really could use $500,000. You will need to give Jana $400,000.00 for her hotel/restaurant, and then you can keep the remaining $100,000 that you could really use.
Rich
P.S.
If you're going to shoot for the stars ... Then shoot for them already! Why you gonna settle? |
