I've been meaning to say this for a bit now. You're English is very good. You really shouldn't be embarassed by it. For that matter, Scorpia and Henk do very well with English.

If nothing else, your English is way better than my Italian... and I took Latin for four years, so I should at least be passable at Italian.

Anyhow, don't fret about it. It's freaking awesome that you're bi-lingual. I'd love to be bi-lingual.))

It warms my heart to hear, since I often fear the quality of my english.
In my country we learn english in third grade, but many of us know a little of the basic even earlier due to so much english in TV and music. Razz

actually for having English as a second language you do better than some Mexicans over here in my home town

well miss scorpia your english is in my books perfect.

as for me im half english half australian so english is my main language, but i can speak good spanish and a little french but as i live in australia the need of those language's never come up.

Its not bad to be bilingual. I speak a limited amount of various languages from around the world, but its nothing compared to actually being able to speak two languages fluently. I applaud miss Vanessa's and anybody else who can speak english (Makes it easier for me to understand)

Speaking of which I've always wondered why Americans spell words like Colour as "Color" and Pronounce Aluminium different etc. *Shrugs*

Thats how I've always spelled it. Its probably cause americans wanted to be different from the rest of the world, so the early americans taught their children how to do things "Americanized".

There's no intentional reason why American English varies from English in the UK. Just the natural drifting of a living language into distinctive dialects and accents. After all, there's been more than 200 years of separation and there was little mass cultural mixing between them for a while. More years if you count the colonial period. And spelling wasn't standardized for much of it, either.

I'm a big admirer of anyone who can speak multiple languages. With English being (ironically) the lingua franca, native speakers are under very little pressure to pick up another, sadly. My Spanish is rusty through lack of use. And my German and Latin are hardly functional.

As to the "color" vs "colour", you can blame Webster.

When Webster went to write his legendary dictionary, he wanted to make language more accessible to the common folk. So... he shortened extra vowel sounds in an effort to make printed words cheaper. A lot of printers made you pay extra for vowels, since they were used so much more often than consonants. So... Webster was trying to make English a cheaper language to write and print.))

well I know ser henk and miss caroline are not american and the same goes with miss vanessa =3 but your english is very good

as for miss scorpia, now your english as a second language is very very good as well, even though I knew ya from denmark x3

I am not an American either, and I don't mean to insult anyone but I'm kind of glad I'm not!

Being an American would be so boring! Mad

And knowing two languages is something to be proud of, specially if one is fluent with both in writing and speaking! Wink

It's as boring as you wish to make it. And many work hard to master a few tongues. Just it seems we can never learn the ones people want us to.

Too many languages... Heck, I don't think I've even heard Danish spoken aloud. And I must confess to total ignorance of what language(s) are spoken in Indonesia. I know enough to not guess it is 'Indonesian.' Maybe a relative of Tagalog? I doubt Dutch is still spoken there...

It's not a small world after all. :p

Eh, I always get the genders mixed up and my sentence structure is habitually very Germanic/English no matter what I try to write. My Spanish is always rusty and barely fluent. I blame lack of practice and that what practice I get is always with wildly different dialects. Spain, Mexico, and Cuba all have different takes on it which I've had to cope with, not to mention the anglicized Spanglish that crops up here. Razz

Always thought that 'United States' was feminine... Ah well.
