While it I is not my intention to make light of recent events, the situation has brought up a large discrepancy in the services available in Bon Bon, especially as a map of Bon Bon is being drawn up.
In all the discussions of careers and facilities in Bon Bon, I have not read of any mention of an infirmary/hospital. Dr Fuchs is a general practioner as well as a bio-researcher, however a town like Bon Bon with its mining industry would require such a facility. Doctors, nurses, orderlies and other support staff could be possible career options for new members. |

Considering Doctors are one of the most admired jobs in the world, Im sort of surprised we dont see more of them.
And of course, no current hospital brings about a very real absence of sexy nurses. |

Hmmm, well, considering the story, it might or might not be plausible. Its really up to Miss Vanessa to implement that. |

Well it would bring new meaning to the terms " Bed-side manner" and " Sexual healing" |

Just get into debt with the mob and fall a little behind on your payments. That way it can't be diagnosed as self-inflicted |

I could be wrong but I got the impression that in the end of the 19th century most doctors set up their own clinics, and made house calls ... Hospitals were basically state run sanitariums. It was a bit confusing when I was researching for my fursona, but think Dr. Watson from Sherlock Holmes as a stereotypical physician and Bedlam as a hospital. I also ran into references that most barbers pulled teeth ... but I think that was more in the American old west. It would be probably be worth it to dig a little deeper.
But in reference to the original topic of this thread I think we don't have a lot of medical practitioners because it would "tarnish" the fantasy ... there aren't many condom vendors either |

That's about right. Outside of the military and major cities, hospitals/clinics are pretty rare. Healthcare for most people is provided by solitary general practitioners with private practices with one or two nurses/assistants. There is certainly no socialized medicine of any kind. I'm not even sure if there is health insurance... There probably is.
Professional medical care, from a fully trained physician, is relatively pricey. By now, doctors are fairly good at their jobs, albeit they lack the robust arsenal of drugs and machines enjoyed today. And making house calls is much easier than carrying you into the doctor's home and renting a bed from him.
The poorer make do with 'lesser' medical professionals such as a barber/surgeon/dentist or apothecary/chemist. Or home remedies, of course. |

I'm not sure past the Dark Ages, as that's where my history knowledge went besides Egyptian times and the like, but what about Monasteries? How long did they last being used as hospitals and sanctuaries for the ill and down trodden before the modern world came up with hospitals? |

I always though hospitals should give out douses of "sexual healing" (Marvin Gaye), but in literal sense. |
