Wow, I never thought I would say this, but in this generation of console gaming, I believe I just purchased the most perverted T-rated game imaginable for the 360 (Also available on PS3). I was playing this really fun RPG at the recreational center during college with some friends a few weeks ago, it was fun, Jap-dubbed, easy to learn, and fun to watch others play. I asked for the title name, and they said it was called : "Record of Agarest War". So yesterday I went over to my local Gamestop, and while I was purchasing Lost Planet 2, I offhandedly asked if they had the game.
Needless to say they were surprised I asked, but they said it was in the back for certain reasons. I said I would take it, and they bagged it before I could look at it, so I just figured it was a book that went with it or something. By the time I got home and had a good chance to look at it, I can't tell you how red I got by looking at the box that it came in. Not only did it come with a soundtrack, but it came with a pillowcase with one of the female characters on it, and.... a mouse pad with another character with a woman's breasts that jutted out at the bottom. Even the box gave very provacative thoughts to mind.
I saw the regular box over at the center, but I did'nt realize how provacative it truly was.

Well, the game runs across I believe about 5 generations of heroes, and that you carry over from each one while choosing a bride during each one. The game itself is not really as perverted as the cover lets on. |

((As an aside, Atlus USA did something really similar to this a long time back, during the PS1 (not PSX, PS1) days. They released a cRPG game called "Thousand Arms". In it, you had to forge weapons. The better weapons could be forged only if you became closer to one of the dozen girls in the game. Each girl gave you different power-ups for the weapons you made. It was a Teen-rated game. A lot of hyjinx and innuendo, but nothing ever really shown.
G-Collections has released a couple of cRPGs which are a bit bolder and more adult. Lightning Warrior Raidy, Pretty Soldier Sailor Wars 2048, and Brave Soul (by Peach Princess) all come to mind.
So... the idea really isn't new. And, I have to give credit to X-Box and Microsoft for trying to expand the market. I mean, really. How many places can you find your favorite game characters on-line in... compromising positions or garb? A ton. So... while Agarest might be playing off the cheesecake factor, it really isn't anything new.)) |

There was a couple of other games that I can recall with a similar style of gameplay when it came to the 'dating sim' category. Artonellico was one that had intimate relations called the Cosmosphere with one of two girls, and the stronger your bond with either or both of them can drastically change the game, both by story and leveling up, not to mention various powerups that occur throughout the game.
Then you have Growlanser, which was a tactical style RPG that also had a relationship system which can also affect the ending, but not as drastically as the last one. In the end, depending on the one you choose for your date during the last part of the game. This is dependant on how much individual attention you give to him or her. Yeah, you can choose a guy to hang with which is kinda hilarious.
Both are Atlas games, but I would have to say though that RoAW is an iF Idea Factory game which is independant from them. Hell, there is'nt even any English dubbing, but its cool that way. |
