Are there any other Walking Dead fans here?
For those not familiar with it, The Walking Dead is a comic written by Robert Kirkman. It's a story about people trying to survive after a zombie apocalypse. What's so great about it is that it just goes on and on. In the story, the people have been living in the zombie world for more than a year, still trying to survive. The comic itself is currently at 75 issues.
I really enjoy how it's not just a story that takes place in a couple of days or weeks. It's also pretty brutal and unpredictable, with many of the main characters dying. I think it's one of the best zombie stories ever written.
The reason for this thread, aside from talking about how insanely awesome The Walking Dead is, is because it's being made into a TV-show. Here's a trailer show at Comic-Con:

I can't wait to see the final result! |

What is it with people and zombies? Seriously? I don't see the attraction. OK, I saw the attraction in Dead Rising, but that was only because I was able to go around and slaughter hundreds of people without having to run from a fleet of cop cars afterwards.
But... movies, comics, books... I just don't get the appeal. |

There used to be a free preview of the first issue on Image Comics site, but I can't seem to find it now. If you're into zombies, though, I'm sure it's something you'll like.

Some like vampires. Some like werewolves. The attraction of zombie stories, to me, is when they are post apocalyptic. I like the whole idea of civilization coming to an end, and adding in zombies just makes it that much more interesting. Zombies form a threat unlike many other popular monsters, in that they individually might not be a problem to kill, but their sheer numbers and their never tiring nature makes them difficult to handle on a larger scale. That's what I find so interesting about them. |

I have a similar attraction to the living dead as Symphony. But I also find it interesting how they can act as an unstoppable force without even the slightest hint of cooperation. They work alone, yet as one. |

I just had a funny vision of Borg Zombies.
We are the zombies. Your brains will become our meal. Resistance is futile. |

It's been a while since I've read the Walking Dead (~ issue 60 or so), but news of a TV series is great. Especially since it'll most likely be partly filmed near where I live.
Also, I have to agree with Symphony about my attraction to zombies. The fact that they're easily the most scientifically-plausible monster, especially when you count the ones that are still-living humans infected with some kind of super-rabies, helps a bit as well. |

I read that comic, and it gets disturbing at times. Like the times that did'nt really involves a katana wielding woman who was used for some arena sport. She got back at that mayor by pretty much using every kind of measure of torture:
Pulled off his nails with a pair of pliers.
Ripped out an eye
Cut off his arm then Cauterized it with a blow torch
-shivers- that had me more scared than anything. |
