I've been a fan of the series since I was a child. Although not as hardcore as I was about it in my tender years, I still watch on in the gaming world to what changes happen in the pokemon world. The release date set to March 11, 2011, the two new versions have a yin and yang quality to it, described more equally when you look at the two adjoining colors and legendary pokemon they portray.
http://www.pokemonblackwhite.com/en-us/
While Zekrom, the dark pokemon in the cover, is black in color, it is actually representing the White version of the game, while the opposite is true when the light pokemon, Reshiram, represents the Black version. It sometimes makes me wonder if they simply would have been called the Yin and Yang versions, but in the end it probably would have made complications when they eventually created the third version of the series.
This game takes place in the Unova region, and as always, you choose which gender and name you start off with, as well as the pokemon you start off with. They still retains the basic leaf, fire, and water type system, though in my opinion, they don't look quite as interesting, although I may change my mind if I like the final evolution forms they change into, which is usually the case. |

As the franchise continues to grow, I find myself less and less interested. Not because of the new lands and things to do, but because of the pokemon themselves.
Each new "generation" of pokemon seems to lose a little more of the appeal the previous one did. They seem less and less imaginative and creative, and more and more... generic. The Johto group had some good ones, not least the Three Legendary Cats. But since then, the pokemon that have come out have seemed considerably recycled and simple in their design. They've lack the minor wild side that the original 151 had, that something that said "I am a creature of the land" and now resembles something more like "I am a toy".
Save for a handful of the "second generation", the Johto pokemon, I personally believe they should never have gone beyond the original 151. |

I would not have minded the series as it grew. I mean, the blue and red versions was what began the series, and as such grew to make it into the popularity that still goes on today. The downside began AFTER gold and silver. The gold and silver were genius in design because not only did they add only add 100 new pokemon, they still retained the charm that the pokemon series became renowned for without making them seem redundant. Not only that, but the new series linked the Kanto and the Johto regions together, allowing you to explore the two areas, as well as continuing the idea of exploring every nook and cranny in one's search to collect every pokemon in the game.
It was the ruby and sapphire versions was where pokemon began to lose my interest. It was the subsequent loss of a number of pokemon and the lack of travelling between ALL of the regions that kinda lost it for me. You would think that with the upgrades made to the various handheld systems, you would come to expect there to be at least ONE in the series that would link every pokemon, visit every region, and solve every mystery that the game would hold.
How cool would it be if you could travel across all these regions:
-Kanto
-Johto
-Hoenn
-Sinnoh
-Unova
You could only find certain pokemon in some of these regions, or find them more common in others, meaning one could travel indefinately. If they could at least make an MMO that does that, it would be fine (To some degree) |

Fan made and non-profit as I understand. Sadly, it was still quite buggy and laggy when I last played it. Though that was a while ago and I understand they are constantly working to improve it. |

Yeah, but its not a Game Freak published one, so I'd rather not, though an official one is probably inevitable. |

Actually, probably not. If they haven't made a licensed pokemon online already, it's more likely that they never will. Frankly, pokemon is old. And though there are a lot of fans in the "older" ages, pokemon doesn't hold the fanbase it used to in the targeted age range that it used to when it first came out. There isn't enough interest in the pokemon fad anymore to warrant such an investment. |

People say the same thing about Final Fantasy Online quite often these days, yet they still seem to shell out enough cash from their affiliates to keep making them. |

Its not that, I just think that sony really needs to go back to the roots in what made final fantasy so fun. Turn Based Tactical JRPGs, exploring entire worlds, learning special spells, deep, intricate stories, vibrant colors, dramatic conflict, and beautifully created characters. All the old pixelated games have more character relations than everything after FFX |

I would'nt mind more, but I don't want it to be a visual masterpiece. They just need to focus on game and replay values. I honestly am hoping for another FF tactics game. |

Ok, that is simply your opinion. I can't make you change your mind, because it is yours to make. I like Final Fantasy and hope that it becomes better in the future, despite some of the disappointing factors involved. |

Honestly, I've played Pokemon Black. It is god awful. From what I've played, the game doesn't follow along any of the pathways of the other games. They're starting to change things up. For example, you now have two rivals instead of one. Nintendo is breaking away from the tried and the true... it's about damn time. |

I thought the idea wasnt bad. Im playing japanese white and must say its quite a challenge from other versions. Gym leaders are no joke and actually you got 3 rivals that pop out of nowhere to battle so you gotta be prepaired all times. x_x
But my opinion, the pokemon universe needs to break off this turn style gameplay and go into something bigger. MMO, something RTS, just a way that you could actually walk about summon a pokemon and then take control of it battling someone else dodging moves and attacking stead of just hoping for misses. They could so do it on a actual system stead of handheld if they stopped being lazy just trying to improve graphics on the same game layout.
(To your comment rune, FF I think is dead the way the games are going now) |

I know Xivk, the only games I'm really hoping will continue is the tactics, or at least the tactics advanced ones. |

Ah, yes... I remember when this series had such vim and vigor in my younger days. Gold, Silver and Crystal were welcome sequels, as it kept pieces of the original without coming off rehashed.
I lost interest when the third generation came out. Not sure if it was due to age or if the games failed to keep my interest. The fourth generation, specifically Platinum, gave me some entertainment (but those blasted saving screens were a minor pain). I only got Heartgold to relive the olden days, but I still had some fun.
I'm not exactly sure what to make of Black/White. It may hold up like the fourth generation, but then again... I've been wrong before. |

The only thing I hope they EVENTUALLY do is make a game that has every recorded pokemon in it, and allow players to go to every region. Its the exploration factor while trying to find the best locations to get certain pokemon. Now it just feels watered down. |

I wish for the same. Back in the day when I played Red and Blue, I loved them! Even when Gold and Silver came out, I was so ecstatic when I finally completed my PokeDex legitimately. But now, I too find the series stagnate. The vast majority of new pokemon really lack the charm the first two generations have and seem more similar to digimon rather than pokemon (which isn't bad depending upon your tastes, but it doesn't suit me [excluding Renamon <3]). Grant it, there were a few new additions into the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum generation that I enjoyed like Lucario, Glaceon, and Buneary.
Despite them trying to revitalize the series and introduce it again to new kids with their shiny new DS's from christmas, I may hold off on this installment and wait to see how people talk about it at the video game trader where I work at. |

Same, I'm planning on getting that 3DS that is supposed to come here soon because of promises of the capabilities to play retro games like we could for the wii. |

Oh Gold was my favorite , first game I ever bought with my own money. My gameboy color was the first thing I ever bought with my own money, I was only 8 I think...
Well I had to buy the remake, I did so when I was trying to give my xbox a break, I needed to focus on studies.
It actually didn't help, I played it as much as the xbox, now I got things straight and I play, if I didn't I would go mad!!! |

The thing that made Gold and Silver so fun was because it introduced the concept of further exploration. When a person defeated the elite four, instead of just ending the game at that point, it continued on by going on back to the nostalgic Kanto region to collect more pokemon and earn more badges. The platinum game mentioned most of the other regions, but we could not get there. It was Nintendo's way of making everyone get their other games so that they could keep to the traditional "Gotta collect them all' slogan. |

Probably their best idea and surprise they havent done the meshing of two regions again with the newer versions. |

They did, they only just did it with just two regions and that was it. |
