It's an old movie that Leslie Nielsen was in, the first movie to take place on an entirely different planet I believe too.

Bit of an obscure reference, but the machine was any scientist's wet dream.

In the Film Forbidden planet, a scientist has discovered a gigantic computer which covers 20 square miles of the Planet Altair 4. This computer is is all that remains of the highly advanced civilization that once lived there. It was built to allow the people that created it to live without instrumentality, that is to create without having to rely on a production process. To think of something you need and it is instantly created, by the will of the mind and the power of the great machine. Which proves the downfall of the the people who created the machine, the Krell.
Forbidden Planet was very loosely based upon William Shakespear's 'The Tempest'.
I remember well the line "Help me, my evil self is at that door and I am powerless to stop it!" Very Shakespearian.

Quite frankly I am surprised that the film Forbidden Planet seems to be so unknown here. It is a Sci-Fi icon. Robbie the Robot is the most famous creation ever.
The only female lead is very much in the same vain as Mary in the BB comics, a virgin and completely clueless about men.

I was trawling through youtube and I remembered this film. I based my fursona in BB on the main character Professor Quatermass.

The British title was 'Quatermass and the pit'.
