I have just been watching a program about religion etc

I was just curious if you guys believe in a particular religion?

I was christened a Catholic as a baby in the Netherlands. But i really dont believe in any religions. I believe there is a God, but i find religions pointless. I believe religions cause wars.
I believe this is what is causing problems around the world today

I would love to hear your opinions......?

Hey interestiong topic!

Yeah I think religion is just part of humanity. It basically trying to find a way to explain the unknown. Like how did it all start, why are we here and how does it end. It does start many wars although not all wars are based on religious differences. Anyway religion has good and bad ways. Let's just say that anything too fanatic is in my opinion not well.

I was raised catholic too, but well I don't really go to church except for marriages and funerals. My only good experience with religion was that it brought comfort to my grandmother when I saw her die.

I believe in friendship...is that a religion? Razz

religion has always been used by the powerful people in each society to keep the majority oppressed...it is a total con job.

how can any intelligent, open minded person believe that 1 religion or 1 god is better or truer than another.

the utter stupidity of people who devote their lives to "god" really depresses and annoys me.

without getting too heavy...it defies belief, that say, in the iraq war both sides believe they are fighting with /and for god. Rolling Eyes

it also defies belief that ultra conservatives, in the name of god, believe that every life is sacred and vehemently oppose things like abortion...yet on the other hand agree with the death penalty Rolling Eyes

as for the question of whether there is a god...well on the evidense available i would have to say that if their is a god...then he's an asshole.

the world could be a beautiful place ..but its not for most.

Rastus I agree with you completley. It's the worlds oldest and biggest con used by the ruling classes to justify wars and atrocities and the inequality within their own societies. The world would be a far better place without it.

As to why it exists, go to Google and read about "memes" or see this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme. It explains a great deal not only about why religions exist but about human cultures in general.
