I am planning on getting a new computer but I don't know if I should stick with getting a new desktop or should I get a laptop. Does anyone have any pros and cons on getting one or the other?

It really depends on what you plan to do with it.

Desktop

Pros: Easier access, parts can be upgraded and removed easily without the need for a new system.

Cons: Affected by power outages unless using an UPS, non-portable

Laptop

Pros: Portable, battery power makes for less interruption in a power outage (except for recharging)

Cons: Components are harder to access/replace, can get very hot without use of a cooling pad, trackpads (I rarely find anyone who LIKES using that thing)

As stated by Silvador, it depends on your preference. Generally the choice comes down to performance vs. portability. Desktops tend to be more powerful machines, whereas laptops generally are better suited for portability. I recently purchased a new laptop as was semi-required by my job. A mobile IT company does a lot of remote access work, but sometimes the problem is more physical, meaning we have to go where the problems are. In this case, portability is the best option, so we can pack up and go and take the work with us.

I use both thankfully. Here is a few things I have learned, just to compare with Shadow

Desktop:

Info: Generally more powerful than the average laptop, interchangeable parts, and more powerful systems available. Its obviously the system of choice for gamers. Still, its not very portable, and uses up more energy compared to laptops.

Laptop: Laptops are generally more useful as a source of info on the go. THey are often equipped with an Internet card that allows mobile web access. Its the perfect tool for research purposes, especially at locations like book stores and libraries. You better get the most recent model, as they are not as upgradable compared to Desktops.
