Believe me, I know tactics, and played nearly all manner of games involving tactics. I've played Civilian, Phantasy Star, Ages of Empires, Starcraft, Warcraft, Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, and too many other games to list.
Hell in Fire Emblem, I would always reset a mission till I found a way to make it so that every character survived till the end, cause you can't get them back when they are killed. |

(( While on my day off from work, I thought I'd post a few more comments.
And yet still even more comments for Valkyria Chronicles 2. Again, I'm still not liking the exp grinding of the game. I have yet to learn the special exp needed to get a Heavy Mortar, or any of the non-fighty Armored Tech tree columns. Also, cannon towers are annoying. Like… insanely annoying. When it takes about 7 rockets to knock down a tower… that's a bit much. Even the Gatling bunkers weren't this bad.
Anyway, I'm into November. And, apparently, they just ramped up the level of the enemy units. My guys are general level 30 - 31. The scenarios are now listed anywhere from 37 - 47. So… the enemy does a lot more annoying dodging now. I guess I could keep grinding general exp, and I have been; however, it now takes 2 - 3 battles worth of exp to get one unit type up one level of exp. And that's including the exp bonus from getting "B" and "A" end-mission ratings. I do like the fact there are some new battlefield maps now.
The story has taken some pretty, predictable, twists; yet, I guess the team of misfits that is Squad G has grown on me enough that I enjoy the story. And the story has given me a few, new characters to use as well. How can you not like it when Aliasse says "Suuuuuuuuuper Aliasse". It's adorable ^_^. I will say, I do like Audrey Gassenarl's command uniform. She's pretty stylin!
Anyway, onto the new units.
Heavy Scout: Addendum. I've played a bit more with Chole as a Heavy Scout, and I'm still not impressed with them. Their rifles don't seem to be any more damaging then the 7-shot rifles that the Scout Elites have. In addition, the Scout Elites tend to get side/rear shots on infantry more often. It's really annoying to have Chole line up a shot, only to have the other guy duck. (Aside, if you shoot from the side/rear it really lowers the enemies chance of dodging).
Anthem Corp: Addendum. I've used the unlockable "Ali" character as an Anthem Corp a bit more often, and… I guess they've moved up into a YMMV sort of status. While I never seem to be able to have her toot her horn when it's useful, she does have a big pistol that she can shoot with. So… creepy "Ali" makes for a pretty, unsettling, musician. I'm still not impressed with them, but at least they have a pistol, which does give them that leg up over the Fencers.
Gunner Elite:
AP: C+
Attack: B+
Defense: B+
Reaction: A-
Quirks: C
I now have two Gunner Elites, Marion and Zeri. And I'm enjoying both of them. I did give them some of the special light, machine guns that you can make from looted weapon designs. This gives them a ton, and I mean a ton, of shots when they sweep with their weapons. It's kinda creepy-funny how Marion keep shooting well after the enemy soldier is already dead. Anyway, they make for solid camp defenders, good at assist shots, and with the sheer number of bullets they can spray out, they're pretty good at taking out the enemy on their own. They also have a decent amount of AP, allowing them to scout ahead, if needed, and generally keep up with some of the more move-ier aspects of my army. So, a pretty impressive upgrade.
Medic:
AP: B
Attack: C
Defense: C
Reaction: C
Quirks: A+
Medics are awesome! Have one of your characters die to a stupid mine, or stupid cannon-tower intercept fire? Doesn't matter. Just send the medic in and BAM, your teammate is up and running again. Anyway, these guys are pretty butch. Some serious AP to get to where they need to go, the ability to raise the dead, huge bags of extra ammo for other troopers, and a big pistol if they want to shoot something downrange makes for a solid upgrade. Cossette and Heinz are my medics right now, and they're amazing!
Engineer Elite:
AP: B
Attack: C
Defense: C
Reaction: C
Quirks: C
I'm not sure what to think about these guys. They have an impressive range over which to use their first-aid kits… but they can't raise the dead. I originally had Cossette as an Engineer Elite, but found I was using Heinz more often as the healer. Engineer Elites just seem like Shocktrooper Elites in that, while they are "better", the other option in the tree is a more useful choice when you consider the meta-game aspects. So… the jury is still out on these guys. )) |

((Well, I guess I "finished" the game. I beat a battleship, and... now the civil war is over. But I unlocked all the post game stuff >_< Which means... now I might have to work on that instead of Corpse Party.
Overall, a pretty, nifty end fight to the game. )) |
