St Nicolaas is in the country again.
If you colour this in and put it in your shoe under the chimney you might find a gift in the morning.

St Nicolaas has nothing to do with Santa Claus. It existed in our country even before Coca Cola existed.

Yep, we do, but he's rapidly loosing ground to Santa. 
Actually we have both! 
We also have St. Maarten on 11-11, but people tend to mix it now with Halloween influences.
Oh well as long as we keep carnaval! |

Have you been a good girl this year ?
If so you can always expect nice pesents from St Nicolaas and a praising poem.
Othwerwise ..you might be put in the sack and taken to Spain.

Just read a bit from Martina's link. Interesting. You see, we, the Dutch, have been stupid. We've sold/traded New Amsterdam to the British and got Suriname (and I think "Dutch" Antilles) back for it. Stupid. The world should have been talking Dutch, and Santa Claus would never have existed!

I was reading up about this in Wikipedia here. According to the article New Amsterdam/New York was eventually handed over after a series of wars.
Wikipedia recently changed their policy to allow only registered users to edit articles after somebody posted something libellous about the Kennedy assasinations. If you scroll down to the bottom of the article I was reading there is some more vandalism, and I can still edit the page . |
