As far as fighting styles and everything, I'd much rather keep my enemy at a distance, and use a spear or some form of polearm. Though, if your taking seduction into account, a well hidden dagger or pin can handle my enemy while his eyes are occupied.
Now, if I could wield any weapon, including fictional, I'd so have Ivy's chain-whip sword from the Soul Calibur series.
With the mention of Metallica, I can say it will always have a special place in my mind. Due to an act related to the site that may or may not have happened to Battery. |

lets see... if i could weild a weapon i would have to go with any kind of a Warrior Sword... (needs 2 hands to weild)
even though i would be slow at moving the big thing... it can pack a killer blow...
either that or a Rocket Launcher... |

In real life, I've always wanted to handle a sword, really. Not ever tried, though. The whole medieval theme has always been an interest. Tadelesh, however, has a staff, though also a rapier. Quite skillful with both. |

i just use kitchen knives untill i go back to medevil times to purchase a sword... trust me a sword can be sorta useful if your in a "bad neighborhood"
also a gun would be better... |

In real life, I use pretty much the same weapon on the job as Feingo's "Lizzy", a Ruger Redhawk .44 Mag. Double Action. Also, I'm a celtic re-enactor, and I've trained to re-enact with short swords, claymoores, and greatswords. If I had to CHOOSE one though, I'd probably have to go with the claymoore. Hehe, those SOB's are fun... |

They're also slow, which means if you go up against someone with a lighter weapon who knows how to move, you're doomed unless you learn how to use weight to move. |

My style would be the simple yet elegant knives and hatchets... A skilled person can throw both if need be, but they're most effective for "up-close and personal" kinds of fights. Speed's always a must for these weapons, but so is stealth... say all you want about a swordsman's hack and slash abilities, there's still nothing scarier than a well-trained rogue or assassin who's got you flanked. |

There's one important flaw with throwing weapons, though. If they miss, you're giving your opponent a weapon and depriving yourself of one. And even if you hit your target, if they're dead and have companions, said companions can simply pick up the thrown weapon and you'll be in the same predicament as if you'd missed. The same can be said if they are hit and not dispatched. |

Ah yes, thank you Xebulon. I recall Florentine, but I wasn't certain how to spell it without making it sound like some kind of blended drink.
Though, I just take it as wield a large weapon, then a shorter version. So, I've wielded a Sword and Spear in a battle. (Yes, I battle. If you recall my discussion "Belegarth.")

My mother is the same way, with the exception of a steel drum band, as she was once a part of one. |

so you have to be constantally moving or your sorta screwed right?
well speed is one good thing but how much speed will do with someone that never misses eh?
so i dont like getting into fights and thats why i suck at fighting too... |

True, which is why throwing a weapon like a dagger or a hatchet should really never be attempted except in desperation and by one skilled in doing such... Like I said before, both weapons are most effective in melee. And besides, if I wanted a ranged weapon, I'd use firearms anyway... |

My personal choice of weapons, as you might recall Johnny, is still a hefty tuna. |

Don't know why it bugged me, but I had to look up the particular firearm you mentioned and found, unfortunately, that the Ruger Redhawk would be an anachronism in the Victorian period... they only started producing that model gun in 1979. Also, Sturm Ruger & Company, Inc., was founded in 1949, while .44 Magnum cartridges weren't developed until the 1950's.
I'm sorry if I'm screwing up your character concept, Feingo... I also often find historical accuracy problematic when writing about this period... |

Meh, no worries Johnny. Better I find out now then later anyways. Besides, I only said that the gun I use personally was similar to Feingos. Obviosly, Feingo's wouldn't be a Ruger (that much I knew already), and it wouldn't be a double-action either. Besides that, all I gotta do is change the Caliburr. No worries.
Truth be told, I think it was probably my fault in the way I worded things. I made it sound like Cm. Ferinton's firearm was the Redhawk .44, when what I meant to say is My sidearm is the Redhawk, and, like I said, Feingo's is similar. Sorry for the confusion. |

The .45 caliber bullet would be in keeping with the times. I point to the Colt Single Action Army, for an example. |

All this talk of calibur and guns brings up that scene in the Simpsons where they all have derringers. |

I actually just thought of the scene in the Simpsons where Homer and a bunch of folks from Springfield all had shotguns or rifles and they all kept accidentally firing them into the ceiling while Homer was speaking... might have been the episode where Homer buys a gun and joins the NRA, but I'm not sure... at the end of that bit, it turned out Bart had a gun too... |

That reminds me of something I meant to mention earlier. Another firearm that would be time appropriate would be the Nagant M1895 revolver (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagant_M1895 & http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg102-e.htm). Something of a technological curiosity. It was both advanced and obsolete for it's time. Actually, if I remember right, it's still in service today in some parts of the world. I think it's the Russian Railroad Police's official sidearm. |

Ah, I remember that weapon fondly. Was the weapon of my first ever role playing character... Good times. And a very odd revolver. |

No problem Johnny. I always do research before a large purchase.
Though I recall hearing a rather humorous description of the reloading procedure. As memory serves it is as follows:
How to reload your Nagant M1895 Revolver on the battlefield! Now in less than 3 minutes!
Step 1: Ensure that you have fired all seven rounds.
Step 2: Unscrew the ramrod from underneath the barrel.
Step 3: Pull the ramrod out to it's fully extended position.
Step 4: Twist the ramrod counter-clockwise and align with the chamber in the cylinder.
Step 5: Lower the gate behind the cylinder.
Step 6: Hold the gun in a vertical position with the barrel pointed upward.
Step 7: Push the ramrod all the way down. If the empty brass is not dislodged, remove by hand (caution: brass may be hot!!!).
Step 8: Pull the ramrod back to the fully extended position.
Step 9: Rotate the cylinder to the next chamber.
Step 10: Repeat steps 7 through 9 until all the chambers are empty.
Step 11: Twist the ramrod clock-wise so that it is aligned underneath the barrel.
Step 12: Push the ramrod back in until it is flush against the housing.
Step 13: Screw the ramrod back in to secure it.
Step 14: Rotate the gun 180 degrees so that the barrel is now facing down.
Step 15: Open your ammo pouch.
Step 16: Withdraw a handful of bullets (it doesn't matter if it's more than seven, we'll explain in a moment).
Step 17: Ensure that firing pin is pointed up and insert a bullet into the first empty chamber.
Step 18: Rotate the cylinder to the next chamber.
Step 19: Repeat steps 17 and 18 until all seven chambers are loaded.
Step 20: Close the gate behind the cylinder.
Step 21: Drop the extra bullets on the ground (no, really, it's ok, you won't be needing them).
Step 22: Look up.
Step 23: Take a second to notice that you are now surrounded by a group of hysterically laughing German soldiers.
Step 23a: Optional: A sheepish grin might incapacitate a few of the Germans through laughter induced breathing complications.
Step 24: Raise the hand not holding your gun in the traditional signal of "For the love of all that's holy, don't shoot!!!"
Step 25: Carefully place your now fully loaded Nagant M1895 Revolver on the ground.
Step 26: Plant your feet about shoulder height apart.
Step 27: Bend your knees about 15 degrees.
Step 28: Lower your head until if is directly between your legs.
Step 29: Kiss your buttski "Dasvidanya". |
