I had this idea for a while that may sound a bit silly, but please bear with me.How does everyone here feel about a large, ornate carousel being put at or close by the Delight Castle? Please keep in mind that in the 1890's carousels were considered the playthings of both adults and children. Not only did many large parks have them but some fancy hotels actually had them in their lobbies! I would of course design the mechanical automatic carousel(band) organ(complete with pipes and all the bells, drums & such). The kind of carousel I had in mind was the typical Victorian era one with all kinds of fancy murals, fantasy animals to ride(like unicorns, fish, dragons and the like). So,what do you all think? |

I can just imagine some people having a "fun ride" while riding on the carousel. |

wouldn't that take a while to build? But still this is fantasy so there are rules that can be bent or broken. Most people here go for bending the rules. So why not lets have a little fun! |

Sounds pretty cool. They probably could hold some festivals there. Cotton candy and everything. |

In that last vein, here's another related idea.Old time carousels used to have a pole with a set of rings that riders would try to catch. The prize for catching each ring was a free ride.Maybe the ring prise would equal a "free ride",but not on the carousel per se. |

Another variation on that is the ever coveted "brass ring" style. There, the rings, usually iron or bronze, are easily accessible per go-round but there is one which is brass. If you're lucky enough to get the brass ring, you won a free ride. There used to be one of those style carousels in Rhode Island when I was growing up. Never did get the brass ring though. |

Most carousels of this period, and even through the early 1900's, were. Typically, the ornate models looked something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqWlXkN_zCs
However, more basic models ( without the vertical motion of the horses, and an external engine) were popular with traveling fairs in the United Sates:

Here's another interesting fact.European carousels turn clockwise, while American carousels turn counter-clockwise.Never understood why that was. |

Counter-clockwise travel allows riders to grasp for a brass ring with their right hand. However, the English carvers realized that if their "roundabouts" rotated counter-clockwise, riders would tend to mount their steeds improperly, as a horse must always be mounted from the left. |

I'm sure somewhere in the city it would be a grand thing, but I don't think it should be placed in the Delight Castle.
Its already a casino, brothel, and dance hall. |

Well, I considered that as a part of the hotel, seeing how most large ones have built in restaurants or bar & grills. |
