Malfunctioning deep fat fryer + turkey = boom
Normal persons reaction = aaaaahhhhhhh!! *runs away* or *grabs fire extinguisher*
Pyro's reaction = oooooohhhh pretty... *stares in awe*
My families reaction = *looks at fireball* *looks at each other* *shrugs* "Grandma put the backup turkey in the oven, we're roasting this year. Someone grab some marshmallows, don't want this to go to waste."
I wish i was lying, it actually happened, and that is a direct quote stated by my uncle. |

Deep Fried Turkey! You roast it man! ROAST IT. Mind you you should try a goose for Christmas, I did last year on the wife's sister got my face slapped. Boom Boom!
No really, the goose is a bird for roasting and with all the grease and fat that comes out of it you can use that to rub on your chest to ward off colds. Just ask your grand perents kiddies!
Your disaster reminded me of when I tried to make some home made ginger beer, still a favorite of mine, when I was about twelve years old.
The ginger beer had been left to ferment in two 1 gallon glass demijons.
The family when to bed and in the middle of the night came two of the most enormous explosions. We though the IRA had come calling.
Coming down stairs we found that both demijons had almost vaporised, shards of glass inbeded in the ceiling tiles, in cupboard doors and of course ginger beer every where. My mother went ballistic, but my father, who had to redecorate the entire kitchen, merely said "Well theres some thing you don't see every day!" |

It's a good thing that no one was hurt. Did it explode, or did the grease catch fire? |

Why would you deep-fry a turkey in the first place? |

In my humble opinion, turkeys taste far better when fried, rather than roasted. The majority of the meat becomes more tender, and absorbs more of the flavor. Fried turkeys are also nearly devoid of any grease, as the high frying temperature ( around 350*) doesn't allow the turkey to absorb the frying oil. |

....Id deep fry a turkey, I also have to agree with Cole Blacke, Turkeys do taste better when they are fired than they are roasted but alas it is good to know that no one was hurt when that happen during your Turkey Day.

A freind of mine wanted to give me one of those outdoor deep fat fryers(since he had to give up fatty foods due to a heart condition),but I couldn't see myself frying anything that big. |

The only time I had deep fry turkey was after Thanksgiving when there's a lot of left over food.
Do you guys ever had to eat nothing but the left over food from your Thanksgiving dinner for a couple of days? |

My family usually cooks a hearty meal, so everyone generally leaves with something to take home.
Pumpkin pie would have to be my favorite left-over, though yams, in brown sugar, are equally tasty. |

yams... *blah*
still, I gotta agree with you on the pumpkin pie... about the only custard-style pie that I enjoy, since I'm really much more of a fruit-pie fan (apple or berry, mostly). Unfortunately for this year, my sister tried a recipe for a sugar-free pumpkin pie (since my dad's diabetic), and it didn't turn out well at all... |

Removing key ingredients from food and beverages is a long time battle cooks can never seem to win completely. Sugar and caffine seem to be the main troubles. |

That's the "sugar-free" guarantee. |

We always stick to old recipes, with whatever new innovation always being paired with the traditional standby. This has even resulted in multiple turkeys being cooked, such as when my family tried smoking one and deep frying one. |

Splenda seems to work relatively well as a sugar substitute - my brother and I did a lemon meringue for Christmas one year and despite my doubts it was pretty tasty. |

Hmm, sorry to hear your bird didn't turn out so well. I know I'd be doing the pyro reaction before my family would do something like yours; save my mom would be in a panic while my dad and brother would do the back up.
My family is REALLY bizaro. |
