i was curious , i have seen several artists who do anthro style work, and i have seen a couple wing styles for there avian characters, and was currious what everyones preference was.
1-wings atached to the back(going for the sort of angelic look  ) seems to be the most popular, and my preference.
2-wings built into the arms(think falco from star fox) i was maybe gonna play around with this in some of my drawings.....
3-no wings, i havent seen very many of these, but i have seen some artists who leave them out
im sure there are more but none i can think of at the moment(what i get for posting at 4 in the morning) |

| I prefer the third option, where they don't have wings. That way they look more like other anthro characters to me. Their beaks and other avian features easily distinguish them, while I tend to find them having wings on their backs make them look too angelic, or too much like characters from a Fantasy setting. |

Yeah, i'm more in line with Symphony, I also mostly prefer a "no-wing" approach to avian characters, simply due to the fact that I grew up on Ducktails and old Daffy Duck cartoons. Still, option 2 isn't completely out of the question either, because in many of the older Daffy Duck cartoons, Daffy's "arms" seemed to transform into usable "wings" whenever the plot deemed it necessary for him to fly, and back into "arms" whenever he needed to interact with things on the ground. That option seems to maybe more cartoony, but I sort of prefer my furries that way...

actually, henk, if you went with the first option then it might lead to more problems with cloths, they would have to fold the wings on there back and keep them under shirt, which would produce a noticeable bulge on the back(might lead to unneccesary hunch-back jokes)
although i suppose that they could have specialty cloths for them.... wiat, isnt that what they do for pants so the tials can fit through? odd that i never really thought about that untill just now..... hmm, food for thought |

Vanessa has already shown how that would work in issue 7 page 12. The same would apply to avian wings as well, I assume, though Vanessa doesn't draw avian characters with wings from what I've seen so far. |

| Truthfully, I don't care if an avians has wings or no wings. If I notice feathers on his/her body, then I will know is an avians. In my opinion, whether an avians looks better with/without wings depend on the artist's art work. |

I'm fairly certain a similar topic has come up before in here. I think the concensus was that, for more avian characters, simply having beaks and feathers was usually enough to convey "birdiness" to the viewers, but adding extra wings for bat characters was deemed necessary simply due to wings being one of the most defining characteristics of bats. That's why all three of our batty residents of Bon Bon have wings on their backs.
Otherwise our flying foxes would look too much like... well, foxes.  |

Yes, bat characters really need wings.
I don't know how many avian characters Vanessa has drawn. I remember a male duck in the first issue, and a female avian(possibly a dove) in the second issue. Then there's Pollyanna from issue 6 of course, and Vanessa has also shown a very nice female eagle once as well. I'd really like to see more. |

| I think all 3 can look good when done in the right way, My preference is the first one but i have seen excelent drawings of the other two also ^_^ |

Ah, Keith Harris and Orville.
Personally, I think all three can work, and I don't necessarily have a favourite. It all depends on the artist, their style, the type of avian they are drawing, etc. I have seen examples of all three types that are excellent.
